We are proud to offer the only Gifted/High Achievement courses with Highly Accelerated Mathematics at Byrd MS.

Gifted/High Achievement Highly Accelerated Math

Students in the Gifted/High Achievement Geometry pathway will complete:

6th Grade - Common Core 6th and Common Core 7th (elective)

7th Grade - Common Core 8th and Algebra I (elective)

8th Grade - Geometry

Honors Accelerated Math 

Students in the Honors Algebra I pathway will complete:

6th Grade - Common Core 6th

7th Grade - Common Core 7th and Common Core 8th (elective)

8th Grade - Algebra I

Common Core Math 

All other students will take this pathway

Your child does not need to be identified as Gifted or High Achieving to participate in either of these pathways.  We use a combination of data sources when placing students into the higher level math pathways.  This would include the students' SBAC test scores, grades, work habits, teacher recommendations and our placement test.  Our placement test is given in late May and early June.  The topics covered on the test are NOT usually covered in the 5th grade.  You can view a list of the topics on the flyer attached below.

All other students will take the regular Common Core pathway.
